Depending on how often you use your iPad and whether or not you carry it around with you frequently, it could be just as prone to a shattered screen as an iPhone if it is dropped, stepped on, or otherwise abused. Apple: Keeping in mind that Apple’s one-year warranty only covers defective glass and does not cover accidental damage to iPads, it could be rather expensive and time consuming to take it to an Apple Store for repair or to ship it directly to Apple. However, if you opted for AppleCare+ when you purchased your iPad (or you opted in within 60 days after purchase), it’ll run you about $49 for the repair (plus the $99 you pay for the AppleCare insurance, which covers two instances of accidental damage). If you don’t have insurance, the replacement will run you as much as $600 plus tax. In that instance, it might be cheaper to just buy a new iPad.
DIY: If it’s a matter of broken glass but the touchscreen is still okay, there are a number of do-it-yourself tutorials online on how to replace the glass. However, this is much more difficult than simply replacing the entire touchscreen (which is also much more expensive), because you will need to separate the glass from the touchscreen, then glue the new glass to the old touchscreen.
Third-Party: There are a number of third-party repair shops that can handle the problem for you, quickly and at a fair price, and run the proper diagnostics needed to ensure the problem is resolved correctly.
